Earl's 610003 Speed-Flex Stainless Steel Braid -3AN Rubber Hose - 10 Feet Details

Standard automotive flexible brake hoses are manufactured from synthetic rubber and reinforced with multiple layers of fabric braid. This was fine for the relatively low pressures needed for drum brake systems, but when disc brakes were developed the pressure requirements increased considerably and on some cars so much of the brake pedal travel was used up in expanding the flexible brake hoses that there was insufficient pedal travel left for safe braking. In the mid-1960s, Earl's solved this problem with a stiffer hose of extruded teflon combined with a tightly woven high tensile stainless steel outer braid. Eliminating the line swell solved the pedal travel problem, and increased the firmness and feel of the brake pedal, while the materials improved abrasion resistance and increased temperature capacity. Decades later, this style of hose is still preferred by many professionals, and it is available to you as Earl's Speed-Flex. In addition to its exceptional qualities for braking systems, it may also be the best choice for use with other fluids because the teflon lined stainless braided hose has an operating temperature from -65 to +450 degrees Fahrenheit and is compatible with gasoline, hydrocarbon fuels, alcohols, nitro-methane, mineral and synthetic lubricants, and high density fuel additives. Additionally, Earl's manufactures their teflon liner to aircraft specifications (.040" thick), as opposed to the thinner commercial specifications (.030") used by some competitors. Speed-Flex hose is only intended to be used with Earl's Speed-Seal hose ends, must be installed by an experienced professional mechanic, and is sold to be used on off-road applications only -- no claim of usability or suitability for highway or road use is made.
